How to write a UDF for biomass combustion

Hello people

Could you people please tell me where to start to write a udf for biomass combustion in fluent involving solid zone as i have been through a lot of material on the internet but couldnt find any tutorial on biomass combustion. I shall be thankful to you

Hi Mankaran,

This is a significant task. I guess the starting point would be to become familiar with simulation of coal combustion, typically by using the relevant DPM model in Fluent. Then you need to find properties of the biomass in your application -- the range of properties of biomass is huge, so there is no off-the-shelf biomass model. Then you need to adapt those properties to fit the framework for coal combustion: water loss, devolatilization, char combustion. If you can adapt them such that you can use built-in rate laws and just change the input values, then this will be considerably easier than writing custom laws for DPM, which is not at all easy. If you needed custom laws and maybe some non-standard size/drag behaviour, this would be several weeks of effort for an expert.

Good luck!
