Hi everyone,

I have a problem when I use Patch in VOF and hope someone could clear my doubt!

The problem is as follow:

The model has two phases- one is oil and another is water. I hope to simulate the process of the two phases flowing a cylinder.
I initialized with water(primary phase), then checked the contours of volume fraction, and can see a whole pipe of water. Then I patched oil to the inner part of the pipe, hoping get an initialization of oil core surrounded with water. But after the patching, I checked the contours of volume fraction again. The contours didn't show an oil core surrounded with water, but whole section of oil.

I tried several times, still the same results. I wander does the contours indicate that the patching is not applied successfully or it does applied successfully but the contours don't update after the patching?

Kind Regards,

Jing

Contours updates after patching. Something is wrong when you are patching for oil. How are you selecting the region? Region>mark?

Hi Shikamaru,

Thanks for your reply! I found the problem now. I did use the Region>mark. But the mistake I made is that when I selected the Patch Region, I not only selected the register but also selected the Zones to patch, which made the whole piped patched with oil!

But if I adapt a cylinder region, and mark it, is it true that the registered cylinder region is not exact the same as what I defined. I found the marked cylinder is slimmer near inlet and outlet.
