UDF for coal gasification

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has experience in writing UDF for coal gasification and can give some insights from where to start. any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

Re: UDF for coal gasification

Hello,

I have UDF + scheme file for coal devolatilization, combustion, and gasification. I use the discrete phase model in Fluent. Within the define injections panel you will see to the right an option to hook custom laws to your particles. This is where you connect your gasification law to the Fluent solver. Someone else wrote the UDF (it is over 1500 lines) so I am not too comfortable with the physical models/kinetic rate parameters employed, but I am learning fast. I would like to correspond with you on this because we share the same problem.

Regards, AAS

Hi,

We can surely correspond on this topic. Do you mind sharing the UDF code with me and if I am able to understand it, I can tell you too. you can also email me at hmore@ualberta.ca.

Waiting for your quick reply.

Hi Hemant and AAs.

I am also working on simulating coal gasification in Fluent. I was trying to write a UDF. I wrote a program on MATLAB for modeling an entrained bed gasifier and it works fine. Now I wanted to do the same in Fluent but I m stuck with the UDF part as I dont have much experience in this. I would greatly appreciate any help from Both of you.

Thanks

Combustion in gasifier

Pleased to find the people who r working on the problem like me.
I'm Keran Patel, presently doing my masters in Thermal Engg and stuck up with the problem. Its my M tech Project right now.
Its regarding the combustion in Downdraft gasifier.
I wouldnt be able to find the correct way how to initiate the combustion in my project.?I m working on Ansys Fluent 6.3 right now.i already designed a model in Gambit 2.3.

I've used segregated solver,K-E Model (Standard), Enabled Energy Equation,Used Species and transport reaction Model,DPM Model.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Thanking You,
- Keran

hi,I want to know why do you want to write UDF for coal gasification?
the volatile modle is not fit for coal gasification? or the chemisty mechanism is not good ? or others.
I really appreciate your answer.Thank you!

Hello,
I am working with a CFD simulation of a downdraft gasifier. Could you send me the UDF to complete my simulation?
Many thanks,

UDF for gasification

Hi,

My name is Nicholas Agon and I'm doing my PhD at Ghent University, Belgium.
My topic is the CFD modelling of a plasma gasification system for wood.
Like many of you, I'm also stuck on describing the process of gasification in Fluent.
A prerequisite to using combusting particles for the injection is that the gas-phase density should be calculated by using the ideal gas law. Additionally, I experienced that a user-defined function for the specific heat capacity for the gas phase isn't allowed either, but mixing-law should be used.
Does anybody has experienced the same?
In my case, it is really important to use my UDFs to describe the correct properties of the gas mixture (because of the altered properties at very high temperatures).
My idea was to write custom laws for devolatilization that would allow my way of calculating the density and specific heat of the gas mixture.

I have worked successfully with the DEFINE_PROPERTY macros in Fluent, but I could use some tips for writing custom discrete-phase (DPM) model laws.
Could anyone suggest how to start the coding, or share an example of a custom DPM law? You can post something here, or mail me at nicholas.agon@ugent.be
It would be much appreciated!

Kind regards,

Nicholas

hello
i am doing simulation of coal combustion in ANSYS FLUENT 6.3, too.
however,if use my udf. the finial CO2 will decrease. it is very rediculous. the results are total different from without using the UDF.
Can you share your udf for me to check my mistake or give me some suggestion? my email: wgl@dem.ist.utl.pt

Have you solved you problem?
I am also doing the same problem of coal gasification.
And I have no idea of the udf which should be made to represent the coal gasification reaction.
Could you send your code to me for study and reference? Thank you very much.

Hi to all,

I am also quite interested in obtaining this UDF sample since it would help me greatly in defining functions and making the DPM switches work within Fluent.

Cheers!
