Automating Solver Process

Dear all,

I am currently working with Ansys FLUENT and Ansys CFX in parallel. I would like to seek advise as to what would be the most appropriate method to automate the input of boundary conditions for flow analysis over an airfoil. I would like to be able to program an automation process to allow us to set boundary conditions of the flow over the airfoil based on a specified range of angle of attack to be analyzed. Would UDF or APDL programming of the abovementioned processors be the way to go or I am wondering if anyone in the CFD community has figured out a method to set the boundary conditions for each angle of attack case, initialize and solve for results and repeat for the next angle of attack value. Your kind advise would be very much appreciated.

If you're talking about automation of solver setup, the way to go is scheme scripting in Fluent.
However, if you only want to change the angle of attack by changing the velocity inlet, then you could use a udf as well.

I do want to change the angle of attack by changing the velocity inlet but at the same time to automate the changing of these parameters after a solution is converged to move to the next angle of attack to be analyzed so that I do not have to be in front of the computer making changes for every step in angle of attack. I am aware that I could be doing this if I was at home through remote desktop control but I would really like to understand a way to program the routine such that a click of a button will allow FLUENT to access a data file to be read containing all the angle of attack values to be analyzed for that airfoil and for that specified velocity.

Then, the way to go is fluent scheme scripting.
