Is it right different numbers of grids in inlet and outlet

Dear all,
Is it plausible to have different grids at the inlet and outlet? for example , there is a step in the domain, it's difficult to keep the grids the same at the outlet and inlet.

You can keep the grids the same at the outlet and inlet using ICEM CFD, then why to try for different grid size. Of course you can do that too by splitting the required region and then meshing them with different grid sizes and then stitch /merge them! If you will ask me, I'll prefer continuous mesh rather than what you are asking for. By the way, what is your problem domain and which software are you using?
