Fluid Solid Interface in Fluent
I'm completely a newbie to Fluent. I have some experience with CFX.
Could some one please tell me if it is possible to have Fluid - Solid interfaces in Fluent.
To my current problem which Im attempting to set up in Fluent I have a hex mesh generated in ICEM CFD.
For the surface common to the Fluid and Solid domains i.e., the surface which I intend to have as a Fluid - Solid interface, the naming convention is like - "fluidradiatorinterface" for instance and when I import the mesh into Fluent , a shadow surface is also created to this.
But Fluent doesn't allow to choose it as an interface surface.
Could some one please let me know what's wrong like if it is the naming convention I followed (or) something else.
I'd greatly appreciate any help.
I'm not quite sure but I think that you need not choose the surface at the interface to be set as fluid? In ICEM-CFD, if you have defined solid and fluid using material point option, and various parts like inlet, outlet, walls, etc. by choosing surfaces you don't have to define anything else. Fluent will take care of all the parameters automatically :rolleyes: !!!

Else this is also available under the section - " Zone Type Assignment " in the Ansys FLUENT help.
It describes the process by which FLUENT actually searches for a string in the name of the boundary and assigns a boundary zone type accordingly.
I've changed the names of the surfaces representing the fluid - fluid interface and I didn't bother for the fluid - solid interfaces as the momentum and thermal coupling is as expected there though they are not explicitly recognized as interfaces
