DPM post processing
 

Hi guys!

Can anyone tell me how can I get a contour of a particle variable (more specifically particle velocity magnitude or diameter) on a specific plane in FLUENT!

Go to Graphics and Animation>Particle Tracks
Then choose "point" from "Style" drop down panel and select "Particle Variables..." from "Color by". The only remaining part is to select the property you'd like (Particle Residence Time, Particle ID, Particle Diameter, etc.). Also, don't forget to choose your injection from "Release from Injections".

Thank you so much for the reply. Well the problem is I can't see the variable of interest on a defined plane. Like in a way that you define a plane/line and see the variable changes on the specific plane. In the particle variable there is no option to define a surface and see the particle variable changes on there? any suggestion?

Now I got you; but do you think it is feasible to display particle (a 3D medium) on a plane which is a 2D space? That's probably why Fluent doesn't have any option to track particles on a plane.

Thanks alot for the reply. Fair enough since you've got a point there. May be and since the particles are infinitesimal medium, they are not to be sliced!!! Any how, what about another way of post processing? Is there any way that I see the rate of variable changes through a sample surface/volume of my computational domain? I mean, say some particles injected through my domain and I want to see the diameter changes of a group of them before(X0) and after(X2) a specific point (X1)? where [X0<X1<X2]

I'm having similar problems as well. I need to create sampling planes to obtain the rate of particles flowing through these two planes(at two different outlet) , with units of kg/m2. How is that possible? I couldnt find any options in the particle tracking, i would really need to get some help on this..

I think I know what we could do...

make your planes and before start the calculations got to reports> sample, Pick your planes of interest and then > press start. Fluent save the particle data (e.g. diameter, position ...) when the injection interacts with the plane. Then you can read it back via Histogram in report>Histogram. Read back the planes and you can see variable of interest in a histogram mode. I'm not sure how can you obtain all particle data. please let me know if you figured something and hope this helps :)

THanks, i will try that out. Do u know how i could make an plane in a circular pipe? (for sampling)
I tried using the iso-surface but..I couldnt figure how to adjust the slider and settings in order to get a plane within my pipe's cross section. Is that even possible?

go to surface>plane and specify your plane. You don't need iso surface
