Hi,

I am analyzing a tank by Fluent VOF model, which has one inlet at the top and three outlets at bottom. Initially half tank is filled with water and half volume by air (lower half volume has been patched for water). I have taken transient, impilcit scheme for solution+ Modified HRIC. The inlet flow rate of water has been taken as half of steady state flow rate i.e., water level of tank will go down as time will advance. This will create less space of water in tank and air will have more volume to occupy.

My questions:
(a) Do I have to make another inlet in the tank for air? Or Will air expand itself inside tank?
(b) Is this a open channel problem?

No you don't have to make an extra inlet for air, air will expand by itself as water level decreases under gravity

No. This is Multiphase problem with air and water as two phases. Read the details of the VOF model in Fluent's theory guide
