flow through vertical pipe

i am using fluent 6.3, and new to FLUENT , i am facing some difficulties while using fluent when working with vertical pipe.( in horizontal pipe flow every thing is ok) , my difficulty is while doing iteration, it gives Error:Floating point error: invalid number.

Are you using axis-symmetric solver? In that case, the axis of symmetry can be ONLY the X-axis (else you will get errors). If you want to model the vertical pipe you should design it as a horizontal pipe (on the X direction) and put gravity on the X-axis.
If you are not using axis -symmetric solver, then you must have done something wrong in the case set up. Do it again in the same way you did it for the horizontal pipe. |

yes, i am using axis-symmetric solver.but instead of horizontal pipe, i made vertical pipe......now i am trying with horizontal pipe. thanks |

I am using a vertical pipe. I draw a 2D axi-symmetric horizontal pipe and I set the Boussinesq option available in the material panel (Density). I also set the gravity along X direction g = -9.81 m/s).
Is this settings correct for vertical pipe with Boussinesq approximation? What will be the operating Temperature when I will set the gavity option enable? Is this the room temperature? Thanks for your time. |
