Sliding Mesh Problem

Hi,

I am trying to simulate a problem similar to driven cavity flow but with a sliding mesh (I problem is more complex so simple moving wall is not the solution). You can imagine it as a solid lid (cell zone 1) being pulled over a completely filled tank (cell zone 2).

I made the interface between the lid and the tank in fluent and gave the velocity to the solid domain. The problem I am having is that I thought the "interface" i created works as a "no slip" condition for fluid part. I expected the lid to pull the water in the direction of movement. When I did the post processing, I found the lid velocity had no effect on the fluid flow.

Am I doing anything wrong or this is how the sliding mesh technique works?

Thanks.

Instead of sliding mesh, make it moving wall.

Thanks for the suggestion, that was my first try for this problem. But unfortunately that does not work for me.

I need to take into account the heat transfer in the solid zone from the fluid zone, making only the wall between the solid and liquid zone move does not give me the correct transient heat transfer behavior I am looking for. Basically the wall is oscillating and dragging the fluid with it and heat is flowing from the liquid to the solid zone.

I have two ideas right not to solve this, if the sliding mesh only moves the mesh and has no effect on the fluid flow.

1) make the velocity in the interface cells of the fluid side to my desired values using a UDF [Tried, not possible to do this because it will be changed during solution procedure]
2)create a layer of super conductive solid between the two zones and give the wall in the fluid side my desired velocity and make the one in the solid side an interface with the moving solid.

Better Solution:
After you create an interface a new wall and a wall-shadow will be created by fluent. You can apply Moving wall boundary condition on that.
