I am modeling a heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) which is a huge domain. While running simulations, I don't have any issue until I turn on energy equation on. After few iterations, I will get the above error.
Mesh quality: (Max skewness is < 0.83 and min orthogonal quality is > 0.25). My mesh looks acceptable. I also reduced energy under-relaxation factor but no help. My model consists of several energy sources with in HRSG. This error builds up and finally solution diverges. How to tackle the issue. Shall I improve my mesh further ? I am already having 25 million cells.

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

You may have an issue with the value you are assigning to your sources. You specify W/m³, so depending on the volume of the cells where you inject energy, you may be wrongly overestimating the amount of input energy. This seems to be the case from the warning you are receiving about the temperature going above the limiter. Even in a stable converged solution, the temperature may anyways take unrealistic values since you may be concentrating a lot of heat release in a volume much smaller than what the real case would be. Normally in those cases that is acceptable because you don't care much about this part of the simulation.

Make sure you compute your sources correctly by looking at the overall enthalpy rise.

Don't worry about the mesh, I think it's fine.

Hope it helps

You reply makes sense. I will check the energy balance. Thanks a lot.
