Mesh Morpher/ Optimizer for drag reduction - control point movement

Hello all,

I am currently running a simulation on a 3D wing and have made a few manual design iterations simply by changing a CAD file and re-meshing from scratch. I am now trying to use the new mesh optimization in Fluent 14 by selecting parameters as the objective function.

The main part I don't understand is that when you have created the region that is going to change (or morph) with a number of control points you then have to define the scale and direction (deform tab) to move each control point.

Why is this necessary if you have no movement constraints on the surfaces you wish to deform? Is it just to start an iterative geometric shape change or does it constrain the morphing somehow?

Any advice would be much appreciated as I have no support from Ansys and this topic is very hard to find advice on elsewhere!

Hi John

Im like you also trying to figure out how to use the Mesh Morpher/ Optimizer in Fluent.

Do you have any luck with it?
Everytime I try I get an error saying that I have left-handed-faces nodes in my mesh

Hi,

No I had to move onto something else I'm afraid. I think left handed faces means essentially the mesh has become inverted somewhere so it's moved too far in one design iteration. If you reduce that it might help? Not sure but could be worth trying.
