Hey guys,

i have a question according Fluent.
I already finished some transient simulations with 5000 time-steps.
Now i want to use their results but change some settings. Lets say i want to start at time step 2500 of the old simulations, change settings an calculate from this point.
When i try to do this my flow time jumps back to 0....is there anyway to solve this problem?

Thanks a lot!

Hi FluentStarter,
unfortunately there isn't possibility to restart the simulation from a previous time-step: if you want to fix a reference time you have to save your case at this step (so, for example, you have to save your data after 2500 time-step).
If you have a case saved you can start from its results!

Regards

Hi Bionico,

thanks for your rapid reply.
Maybe I explain my case:
I simulate a cylinder filled with gas. Then this gas is compressed by a piston. At step 2500 the piston reaches the BDC. I already simulate this case till the step 2500,changed my dynamic mesh options so that the piston doesnt move any more and simulated 2500 more steps. This worked well!

Now i want to use the first 2500 steps, simulate 100steps more to drive the piston a bit back and then stop his motion for about 2400 steps.

I have have autosaved .dat and .cas files everey 50 timesteps.
I tried it with import fluentcase and it opens the case at step 2500. But when i want to start it again, i have to problems:

1. I have to initialize the solution:
How do i do this? I cant use the same values that i used before step 0.
2. When I try it like this my flow time is resetted....

Thankyou =)

It's very strange: are you sure that the .DAT file is loaded correctly?

I donīt load the .dat-file. I load the .cas.gz-file via import case-file

You have to import even .DAT file in order to start the simulation from the point it finished!

Okay...its really strange. I work with Ansys Workbench and when i click on import case-file directly in the project it does not work.
Now i started Fluent without loading any data and clicked in import data there....time flow is fine now...i`ll calculate some steps and see what happens to pressure and temperature!

Thanks anyway Bionico

Usually I work on Fluent separately from Workbench: I suggest reading ANSYS Manuals, anyway probably you have to connect Results in the workflow.

Best Regards
