Furnace modeling

Hi everybody,

I would like to model methane combustion in a corner-fired (tangential fired) furnace. I started with Fluent's Non-premixed combustion model, but as I have primary air+fuel (fuel/air mixture) and secondary air inlets I'm not sure that this model is the applicable one.
Should I use the Partially premixed combustion model or the non-premixed can also handle with this and give reliable solution? Do you have any experience in cases like this?

Hi,

You cannot use premixed inlets in the non-premixed combustion model, only fuel and oxidizer inlets. You can use premixed inlets with the Eddy-Dissipation model. I have no experience with the premixed or the partially premixed combustion models.

Hi macfly,

Thanks for your response! I try to do it with partially premixed combustion model.

Hi all,
I was modelling coal combustion in a reheat furnace in fluent.. The walls of the furnace have simply been created as surfaces with no thickness... Other than defining the emissivity properly of the surface, is it necessary to take care of other properties like rho, Cp, k, absorption coefficient, etc ,, the inputs in material properties in fluent or the default values will be ok to continue with? I was thinking that since there is no thickness so these properties will not matter...
