Hi to all,
I am trying to model a flow through a filter using porous jump. I created three volumes, one for the up part, one for the filter part, and one for the down part. I try to create two interface. The first one, in order to connect the up part face with the filter up face. The second one, in order to connect the down filter face with the down part face. However, fluent gives me the following error. Creating empty surface. Note: zone-surface: cannot create surface from sliding interface zone. Ignoring this message, as it is suggested in other threads, I run the simulation. However, There is no flow after the up part. It seems that fluent cannot recognize this interfaces and calculates reverse flow. Any advice would be highly appreciated since I am new to cfd and unfortunately there are not any tutorials related to the field of filtration (porous jump) |

Are you sure that your porous zone is fluid? If I am not wrong the error message zone-surface: cannot create surface from sliding interface zone would occur when fluent imports neighboring zones as solid and fluid instead of fluid and fluid (despite you making interface in the meshing program).

Thank you very much for your answer vasava. I have checked it and i defined all as fluid. Do you know any other reason that may cause this problem.
I really appreciate your help. |

The other reason could be that the mesh on both the surfaces is not matching. Now this as you already read in other threads, is not a very big issue and should not cause major problems. Notice that its just a note and not an error.
I would suggest that you take a close look at your setup especially the porous part. I am not so expert in porous media. But if you post pictures from your model and give information about your setup someone might be able to help. |

In order to solve that problem I changed the set up. Into more details I changed the boundary conditions.
Instead of setting up the wall boundary as a combination of wall surface. I just split the geometry into the up part and sown part. I just erase the geometry of the filter. Then I set fluid 1 for the up part and fluid 2 for the down part. Then fluent let me define the intersection of this two parts as porous jump. |
