wave overtopping at quay walls

Hello Everybody,

I am starting this thread as a continuous log of my improvement and as a log of the progress. My aim is to simulate waves overtopping a quay structure. The final result should be a overtopping rate at defined wave length and heights as I found out in my diploma thesis here in Germany.
I examined the overtopping of waves in a wave flume for a given structure. The waves were created with a (flap type) paddle for high waters.

I'm a totally beginner at Ansys Fluent, therefore I'm grateful for any given advice.

Let's do it! :)

Modell_Netz

Hi all,

after scaling and transforming the AutoCAD data I exported the data as *.sat data and imported the model into CFX-Pre. There are many volumes. First there was a problem as I imported areas and some of them had the same normal vector. I changed the areas in AutoCAD so that they are feaces of volumes.

I attached the domain. It has a quay structure with underlying suporting ferroconcrete grid.

The width of the model is 7,3 m - the length is 209,9 m.

grid

The grid is automatically created by ansys. It is calculated for the following physics:

CFD, CFX

min. size of an element 50 mm
max. size of an element 500 mm

I refined the front of the quay structure. (refinement with factor 2)

connectivity

I have a lot of connections. I think this stands for two or more planes at the same position.

May this lead to a problem? If so, how can I reduce the count of them?

Would it be better to join the single bodies to one volume in AutoCAD?

Does anybody know how to set boundaries for oceanic waves?
Is CFX or FLUENT better for the simulation? I started in CFX but know it tends to be better with Ansys Fluent. It seems not to be as comfortable as CFX.
