Hello everyone !

I am modeling a flow over a spillway (reservoir + spillway+stilling basin) and I am using the sofware GAMBIT for the geometry and meshing.

As it is an open channel flow I am planning on using the VOF method in FLUENT later. Therefore I have some question concerning the mesh that can be used for the VOF method.

- Is there any limitation (like a minimun size) concerning the cells ? (I have quite a big volume and low computational power so I can not do a really precise mesh even with size function )?

- I have divided the geometry in multiple volumes, I just wanted to know what happened at the jonction between two volumes ? Is gambit joined automatically meshes?

- What is the point of meshing a surface/edge before meshing the volume ?

Last I have a question concerning the computational time, can you predict an approximate computational time with the number of cell, the RAM of the pc and the model used?

Sorry if all the questions do not belong to the same section and thanks for your patience.

Best regards.

-mAx- will become famous soon enough
-no cell size limitation --> your hadware will limit you
- if splits are well done, gambit will connect the volumes, and at their common face, gambit will apply interior BC
-if you mesh surface or edge before volume, gambit, will mesh the volume in fucntion of the mesh of the lower topology (I would use size function if mesh of lower topology is smaller than mesh volume)
-it really depends on your hardware and also your physics

Thank you Max for the quick answer, I just made a mistake on the first question, it should be

. My hardware is quite limitate (8Gb RAM) so my mesh will be a bit rough, I just hope it will not be completely wrong to applicate the VOF method
