the limitation of the pressure-based and density based solvers?

Hello everyone,
I know that the pressure based solver is better for slow incompressible flow and the density-based solver is recommended for supersonic flow and shock waves simulation. I'm wondering about the limitation of each solver? when or where can I use them or cannot use them? I prefer to give the reference of your answers and thank's a lot. good luck. |

The pressure-based solver is not as suited for flows with rapidly changing properties compared with the density based solver. That's basically all that can be said.
Rapidly changing is with reference to the computational grid. So a finer grid in ranges of rapid property changes can also handle rapidly changing properties using the pressure-based solver. You should experiment with it for your problem to see which performs best for you. If you want to know when you can or cannot use them, the answer is in most cases you can use both. Sometimes a particular feature is available only for the pressure-based solver or only available for the density-based solver, then you will have to use the one that you can use. |
