Fluent Battery Module

Does anyone use battery module in Fluent?

When I add MSMD battery model and try to select zones under the tab of conductive zones, there is no zone for me to select for active components, tab components and busbar components.

Can anyone tell me how to add these zones and select them?

Thanks,

Julian

Hi Julian,

I am also facing the same problem, Can you please tell me how you have solved the problem, I couldnt find lot of information regarding this in the forum.

Hey! I am facing same problem. Do you have a solution ? Thanks in advance

Try to make cell out of different bodies. For example i made my pouch cell out of 3 bodies, 1 for the body of the cell, 2 for the tabs. Then in Design modeler i combined all the bodies together in 1 part and i named them accordingly to fluent manual: https://www.sharcnet.ca/Software/Ans...age_setup.html (3.2.4.4. Specifying Electric Contacts).
After that in meshing you have to specify that each body is a solid, leaving it as defined by geometry won't work, at least it didn't for me. That's what did the trick.

Hope that helps

You should define the cell parts' boundary conditions as "solid" in ICEM before import your mesh into fluent

HI , I am simulating the battery in MSMD module with respect to ANSYS fluent. In the following figure, How I can get the maximum temperature distribution at the center of the cell. Right now , We have the maximum distribution at the corners of the cell ;How we can move to the center??

AlexanderZ April 4, 2018 21:54

temperature distribution of batteries depends on various factors:
geometry, material properties, boundary conditions, echm settings

frankly speaking, max temperature should be near tabs, not in the center.

you may try to use convection boundary condition, as a first step

best regards

Thanks . I will try.

Battery Module Error

Hi All,

I'm also having a slightly different issue, I'm able to select my cell and tabs in the conductive zone and electrical contacts tabs, when I initialise the problem I receive an error that says something to the effect of 'zone xx is not connected to a conductive zone'. The zone in question is the negative tab of my model which is in contact with the cell so I'm not sure what the issue is.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

check your geometry in CAD model i found the same issue but it gets resolved when I reviewed the model .

Temperature Contour Incorrect in Fluent Battey Module

Hi

By solving the battery problem using Ansys documentation, we get high temperature region in the active zone, whereas in real life experiments high temperatures are supposed to come at Tab regions. Could anyone explain what is missing in the Ansys documentation?

AlexanderZ May 9, 2018 21:43

Take into account convection as well as other factors

best regards

Model Parameters

How are the model parameters obtained for these battery modules? when I use the predefined ones my solution diverges..

adarsh3krdas May 10, 2018 11:35

1. I did everything according to the Ansys documentation and my results are similar to the one given in the documentation but the results shown in the literature are vastly different. Ansys documentation shows the maximum temperature region at the centre of the battery whereas in literature it says that the maximum temperature region is at the tabs of the battery.
2. Also when I tried to create the mesh file and load it into the Fluent module, no conductive regions are being shown in the battery module. How can I incorporate the conductive region? Would it be done during Geometry creation, Meshing or in Fluent itself? And How can it be done?

Thanks

They use the parameters given in research papers of Cai and White.

tom96 May 10, 2018 11:54

You say that you did everything according to ANSYS documentation, which one are you referring to? The one in the user guide right? Which tutorial are you following?

How can we obtain the mesh files from ANSYS? I had to build it myself but doesn't work when i try to solve:(

I'm sorry but I don't know the solution for your conductive region problem:/ if I find something I'll let you know!

Thanks. But can these parameters be applied to any battery geometry?

adarsh3krdas May 11, 2018 16:42

https://www.ozeninc.com/workshop-sim...-ansys-fluent/

You can get the mesh files from this site.
When you created the mesh files, were you able to define the conductive zones in the battery module?

adarsh3krdas May 11, 2018 16:43

I guess they can be applied only to prismatic type pouch cells of the capacity 14.6 Ah only.

adarsh3krdas May 11, 2018 16:45

Also a video tutorial is available on the official YouTube channel of Ansys regarding the same. You could refer to that too.
