Dear all

I am using two-step Methane combustion reaction by Fluent, and my purpose is to calculate the Prompt NOX, to do that I need to calculate the Equivalence Ratio and the Fuel Carbon Number which is the number of carbon atoms per molecule of fuel.

-Two-step Methane Reactions:
1st reaction: CH4+1.5 O2 → CO + 2 H2O
2nd reaction: CO + 0.5 O2 → CO2

My question is that: To set the fuel carbon number, should I consider the 2nd reaction(number of carbon in CO) also or not?

Finally, Which one is right?
Fuel carbon number = 2 (including 1 carbon CH4 from 1st reaction and 1 carbon CO from 2nd reaction)
Fuel carbon number = 1 (including only 1 carbon in 1st reaction CH4)

Thank you in advance.

Fuel carbon number is based on atomic number of your fuel. Your fuel is CH4 not CO.
