Help in choosing results

Hi

I have started using CFD Fluent for my current project on marine propellers and I am comparing between ducted and non ducted propellers. I have done 1 calculation run with my CFD program but I do not know what results I should be comparing for the 2 propellers. I am trying to compare the efficiencies and also cavitation models of the 2 propellers. Much help need thanks !

Hi Chang,

You will have to decide that on the basis of your problem, and the parameters that you are interested in.

Say, for example, I have a stirred vessel and want to study cooling at the wall. I will then export parameters on the heat transfer at that wall, and, to see how cooling relates to the flow, export the velocity profiles/vectors in certain key regions. Perhaps the temperature profile as well, to get insight in the homogeneity.

Now, I have little experience with propellers, but I can imagine you check: the wake of the propellers (velocity, pressure profiles in a cross-section perpendicular to the impeller), the torque of the impeller, perhaps strains rates and turbulence profiles. if you have experimental data available for validation of your results, of course let this data guide you in your choices.

Cheers!
Cees
