Hi,

I have ran a model displaying the average static temperature against flow time, in hope to find out the time when the solid-liquid transition occurs (so constant temperature), however when I run the model I dont get any constant temperature over time, indicating to me that there is no stored energy. The melting temperature is 46C (319K), so at this temperature it should be constant.
Should I maybe plot the temperature against the energy to see this transition?

I have attached a picture of the problem, the left image is the graphs from the model and the right images is the schematic phase transition (theory) and someones results from a journal.

Your results look very reasonable if you are plotting a localized temperature.

You only get a constant temperature if the heat conduction rate is high enough that the entire PCM is at the same temperature. In reality, heat conduction occurs at a finite rate so the surface heats up beyond the melting temperature and slowly increases in temperature as the rest of the PCM responds (i.e. there's a temperature distribution in your material).

Hello my friend,

I also work on melting and solidification problem with Fluent 16.2. I have questions about your figure. Did you use a point or iso-surface to draw the temperature? If you used an iso-surface, was it along a specific axis or it was not important? Is the location of point or iso-surface important to draw the figure?
