How to set up a mixing tank with double helical ribbon blades
 

Hello all,

I have model of a double helical ribbon blade impeller that I imported into ANSYS where I created an enclosure the size of my mixing tank around the blade impeller and did a boolean subtraction, so that I could model just the fluid. My biggest issue though is setting up the initial boundary conditions inside Fluent for a single phase flow analysis. Could anybody give me any suggestions?

I have heard that I can have the blades stationary while I have the fluid body rotating which eliminates the need for interface zones..? and I have also heard that I can set the blades in motion while the fluid is stationary?

You can add a velocity to any of the walls. Go to wall boundary conditions tab and give a rotational velocity to all your walls. I think this is the easiest route because then you don't need a dynamic mesh which follows the impeller.

The other way is to look into a dynamic mesh, which will likely involve sliding mesh interface. You only need the interface though between stationary mesh zones and moving mesh zones. Sometimes you can put the entire mesh rotating and not need interface, depends on your geometry.
