Hi, everybody. I've got some progress in modelling laser cladding and melt pool formation. However, some questions occurred and I've been stuck for some time.

1. When using vof method to track free surface between the air and material in order to apply the moving heat source (gaussian heat source), there are some temperature peak (extremely high) happened on the interface. It might be the problem of numerical diffusion since vof is not continuous along the interface. Some people suggest that adjacent cells should be found and heat source should be applied on those cells. I have some problems finding right marco to locate the adjacent cells.Or does anybody know some other ways to handle this problem.

2. I am trying to add material into the model. I tried to change the vof value on the surface to achieve this. One problem is that heat source cannot be added at the same time when changing the vof in my model. The second problem is that considering the process I am going to achieve, the material each time step(1e-05s) to be added will be really little meaning that height of the cell added during each time step is extremely small. Does anybody now how to add material into melt pool in this situation.

I will be really appreciated if somebody can give some suggestions or have some discussions. Thank you very much for your time.

Are you achieve this in the commercial software Fluent?
I am doing this work in the Flow3d, and I also come across some trobules, how to specify the moving heat source, and how to add the arcforce on the free surface cells~
