Structured (Cutcell) vs Unstructured (tetrahedral) meshes difference in Fluent result

Hello Guys,

I am trying to investigate the difference in the results if I use structured (cutcell) mesh vs unstructured (tetrahedral) mesh in fluent. I am simulating hot airflow (60 m/s at 900 K) passing through a catalytic converter, and in cases that I compared using k-omega turbulence model the cutcell mesh produced double the TKE than the tetrahedral mesh in the flow expansion and contraction areas in the geometry.

Anyone has ever compared two types of meshing techniques and would like to give any input?

Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike. I have done this type of comparison, I have got similar results. If you're sure you're using the same initial conditions, you must try to do a mesh independent analysis for each method. You can only compare your results when you get converged values. If you already did it, please tell us.
