Transient Fluent saving problem

Hi I am performing transient analysis of a flow in a pipe. It reaches the steady state after 5000 time steps and i closed it as the data file of nusselt number was autosaved. But later i opened to get the area weighted average of some wall fluxes but those were not available. Even the UDF is also not showing. How can i get it. Or i have to run it again to reach for the steady state.

Hello dear Njit, I think that you opened the setup not the solution..If you set the auto save rightly, you have to open the solution and you can get the results and if you click on calculate, you will find the solution starts from the last iteration or time step...If you open the setup and click on calculate, you will find the solution is being initialized...
Thanks

Thank you for your response. But i have only the FLUENT file. How can i get the solution instead of the setup?

Perform some magical ritual :D
Seriously. Don't you think that the answer is obvious? If you did't save data file, you cannot get it anywhere. The only thing you can do is to perform calculation again and save results.

I mentioned that the data file of nusselt number was autosaved!!!

Dear Njit, what is the extension of the Nusselt number file?
Thanks

Extension of the file is OUT. Thank you

Ahmed Saeed Mansour December 15, 2016 09:35

You have to find this extension "cas.gz"...it is a compressed file represents the solution..if you don't find it try to find .dat..if no files like these...open the setup and set the auto save 200, 500, or 1000 iteration..According to your disk space and your target..If you wanna make a transient animation you have to select a number for the autosave that save many files to carry out the animation...if you wanna stop the solution ..click cancel and if you wanna see the results after closing Ansys..open the project but from the solution tab not setup..Keep me posted..
Thanks

Acually I am working on a project half completed by somebody earlier. And I got only .cas file from him which opens directly on FLUENT. I have performed simulation there only and so i dont have any solution or setup. And now it is creating problem for me to post process the results if i close the program once and ant to get any data from it later. Thank you.

To change the auto save..open the cas file from fluent icon and change it and then click on calculate...you will then have many auto save cas files....when you stop the solution and you wanna complete it later..open fluent again and import the last cas file..you will find the last step that you can continue from it..no problem at all.
Thanks
