Hi everyone,

I just start the CFD modeling and read the theory guide, but i still not very clear about the difference between vof and eulerian model, can any friend explain this for me? also what exactly is the interpenetrating continua?

Any explanation will be appreciated!

you are reading fluent manuals.

anyway, the interface between phases is resolved by some compressive scheme in VOF. In eulerian models there is no sharp interface between phases and same control volume can have 1 or more phases. The schemes are not designed for keeping phases to phase interface.

There are more differences depending on eulerian model.

Dear Arjun,

Thank you for your quick reply.
like you said, some control volumes have one or more phases in eulerian model, but in VOF model control volume can also have one or a combination of phases, right? so, the big difference is the sharp interface thing?

yannan

Yes. As far as volume fraction equation is concerned.

Dear Arjun,

Thank you for your explanation!

can you kindly describe some other differences between vof and eulerian model. for example, i am now studying three phase flow in a stirred tank. the primary phase is oil, the secondary phases are gas and water. The oil is stirred by gas. so in my case, the eulerian model is more suitable? and what is the difference if i use vof?

Best regards,

Yannan

I have not understood the meaning of 'interpenetrating continua'
If anyone knows the above please explain
