Hello,
I installed Ansys 18 (I just use Fluent) on my Gentoo and all previous versions (16,17) worked without problems but with fluent 18 it won't start.
The first window appears (the one where you can decide if you want to work on a 2D or 3D case) and when I click enter the new Version 18 logo appears and that's it. No error message nothing. Has anyone had similar problems?

EDIT: I got now an error message when I try to start fluent via the Ansys Workbench:
"The FLUENT application failed to validate the connection"
Does that mean I have a licence problem?

Did you install also the new version of the License Manager - LM R18? Any ANSYS Release won't run if your LM version is lower than the Release version.

I searched a bit more and installed a couple of packages and it still is not working, but a new message appears:
libGL error: unable to load driver: nouveau_dri.so
libGL error: driver pointer missing
libGL error: failed to load driver: nouveau
libGL error: unable to load driver: swrast_dri.so
libGL error: failed to load driver: swrast

From "The FLUENT application failed to validate the connection" I would say that the problem is in licensing, as you said, so installing more packages is probably not the way to go. Check in your ANSYS ANSLIC_ADMIN Utility that everything is set right. Use Diagnostics Options, it may tell you something valuable. In ANSYS License Management Center restart the license manager. Try also to open services.msc (that is Windows, is there sth like this in Linux?) from command line and restart ANSYS License Mgr from here. If nothing helps, contact your local vendor, they should be able to give a better advice than me.

Thanks for the help. I did the "Gather Client Diagnostic informations" and that looks all good. But when I click "Display the licence status" i get:

ERROR - Cannot determine the license status - lmstat command failure.
couldn't execute "/usr/ansys_inc/shared_files/licensing/linx64/lmutil": no such file or directory

The wired thing is, that if I do the same on a different machine where I have v17 and v18 installed i get the same message but v17 works without any problem.

Something else, which is confusing me is, that if i run v17 in my log directory ~./ansys there is a file named "licdebug.FLUENT_SOLVER.171.out" created, which states the whole license process. Whereas if I do the same on the machine where just v18 is installed this file is not created. Therefore I'm not sure if it is a license problem or a different problem which appears before the license is checked so it want even come to the point where the license is checked.

I try to install it on windows and if it runs there than at least the license server works.

I tried it now on Windows and there it works perfect.
And also in Linux it works if I start it without gui than it works. I post that in an Gentoo forum and if I have an answer I post it here as well. Thx for your help!

Edit: For now till the opengl is fixed a workaround is to start fluent with the following flag: "-driver x11" in order to disable opengl.
