2D FSI simulation
Hi,
I successfully simulated a 2D rigid thin plate with flapping motion (plunging and pitching through an UDF), now I want to do a 2-way FSI with the same airfoil to see the aeroelasticity influence, but I noticed that it's not possible to do a 2D FSI. So I extruded my whole O-grid toward the third direction, set the boundary conditions of the domain contours to "velocity-inlet" with 0 velocity (as in the 2D case), set the faces in contact with the airfoil to "deforming" and started a 3D simulation with Fluent. I tried extruding with different lengths (1 and 0.1) or different number of cells (1 and 14) along the third direction, but the solution diverges or gives wrong results. How can I get a 2D FSI? Thank you. |
Similar case
Hey man,
I am dealing with a very identical case. i have the time, pitch response, plunge response, lift and pitching moment. Whether i use static structural or the transient structural module in workbench, it keeps asking me the thickness and i've found no way around it. i performed the aerodynamic analyses on FLUENT for a 2D airfoil. I am trying for a 2 way FSI. Please let me know if you've found a solution to your problem. Any help is massively appreciated! Cheers! |
Hello il.deda,
Did you manage to simulate a flexible airfoil? You cannot perform FSI in 2-D since you need pressure values to calculate the forces. But you can extrude with only one cell and it will work fine. My question to you is if you managed to do it, how did you define the motion of the airfoil? Using: (Dynamic mesh->rigid body motion-> Use UDF profile) or you used DEFINE_GRID_MOTION and DEFINE_CG_MOTION. Best, Antonio |
