Hi all,

I'm currently simulating gas-liquid two phase flow using VOF method. I came across a method to calculate the interfacial area recently, and I'm very interesting in it. According this method, the local interfacial area in an interfacial cell is calculated from the cell fluid fraction gradient,

Ai = |grad f|i * Vi

where, Ai is the interfacial area of cell i,
|grad f|i is the fluid fraction gradient of cell i,
Vi is the volume of cell i.

Could anybody tell me how to access the value of |grad f| in Fluent.

Thanks a lot

What type of flow regime you working with?

Hi, kbaker

I'm working with a T-shaped mixing zone, the computational domain is 3D. The two inlets are for gas and liquid respectively. I need to calculate the interfacial area of the main channel. Can you help with that?

thanks

use
C_VOF(c,t) in udf to acess that parameter that parameter that you want to know

shk

C_VOF(c,t) returns the volume fraction for cell c, however how can I calculate the gradient of C_VOF(c,t)?

Hello,
Haven't you solved the problem? If you haven't, you can try the "C_VOF_G". Additionally, could you explain the meaning of equation"Ai = |grad f|i * Vi "?

i want to calculate area of circles which would be used in ansys fluent ....
it is 2d heat exchanger and i have problem how to calculate area of circle in front of flow or which area i have to put in reference value ..
i have confusion whether i have to use area of 2 or 4 circles ???
kindly tell me how to calculate this area or which area i have to put in reference value ??? i have attached the jpeg. file of structure to further explain it ?
waiting for answer...i will be very thankful to you.
what Reference values should I used in fluent to find the area as defaults values are 1 for area,depth and length.
Area=?
Depth=?
