First of all: Hello everybody in this forum.

After learning to do some steady state analysis in Fluent I feel prepared to move in to my actual goal: dynamic meshes for an active valve simulation.

This ist my setup for learning mesh deformation:
(see attachment)

  • constant pressure inlet and outlet
  • valve-side + valve front are moving
  • valve speed actuated by udf DEFINE_CG_MOTION (prof-file works also)
I did my deforming mesh setup so far after this youtube tutorial:
  • smoothing only
  • valve-front: rigid body motion with udf or prof-file
  • valve-side: deforming with definition: cylinder
This works so far, but, of course, the mesh is not remeshed as no remeshing is set up. No matter what remeshing settings I try I always get a negative cell volume. So finally here's my question:
  1. What is wrong with my setup? Any suggesions?
  2. the next step I wanna try is to use the axis symmetry. What's the correct deforming mesh setup for the axis?

that's it so far...
I hope someone can help me.

Chris

Hey there. did u manage to solve it? from what I can see it seems you are trying to "extrude" a wall into the domain.

I am having a similar problem but in my case I am trying to simulate a valve in IC engine.

Sorry, I switched to openfoam. Look for "enginefoam" and similar solvers.
