Dear all

I want to simulate helical pipe, due to computational effort, I only simulate small part by using combination of periodic boundary condition of translation and rotation. I have tried to find any reference about it but I don’t get any article about this problem. Do you have any advice?

thank you
Teguh

You need to extend your domain so that you can apply the translation only periodic BC.

The formulation is based on Patankar's work, which is derived for the translation only case. The math already looks wonky to me the translation + rotationally periodic configuration. The main issue being how does one even impose the rotation periodic constraint on an x,y,z coordinate system? and then how to handle the pressure gradient?

Dear LuckyTran

Thank you for your suggestion. I am sorry for late reply. Yes, I have tried your suggestion. I lengthen the pipe until one turn. The position of the periodic boundary condition is same only have a pitch distance. It works.

Thank you so much
best regards

Hi teguhtf,

I am trying to do what you said. The solution doesn't converge. I created a helical pipe with one complete turn. d = 4 mm, p = 6 mm, D = 36 mm. I created the transnational periodic zone.
What are your solver settings ? Thank you.
