I performed the pipe flow analysis (using FLUENT) which has velocity pulsation as an inflow condition. The pulsation image is attached here. In case 1, pulse initiates and terminates at zero velocity. On the other hand, in case 2, pulse initiates and terminates at 0.5 m/s.

I successfully completed the analysis for case 2 without any problem. However, in case 1, there is a problem of reverse flow at the pipe pressure-outlet, and this retains throughout the steady and transient analysis.

Upon investigation, I found out that if there is a zero inflow velocity, there occurs reverse flow always, which I verified by performing the analysis where I used constant zero velocity at the inlet boundary condition. Moreover, unlike case 2, during hybrid initialization, case 1 showed zero values in all the iterations.

Can anyone please provide his/her experience and solution to avoid reverse flow in such situations?
