Help in Tutorial of a duct in adjoint solver Fluent

Hi, I'm new in this forum.
I'have to learn how to use the adjoint solver in Fluent so I'm following the steps of the tutorial proposed by Ansys from this link (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCzK8NEl0WU). I don't really understand why, in the creation of the observable of the variance of the velocity at the outlet, it uses the Volume-integral type of integration, as I reported in the figure.
Why is choosen that option even if the velocity is not a quantity that is stored per unit volume. Any suggestion?? I want to increase the uniformity of the flow at the outlet.

Thanks a lot
