Dear all,

I have to simulate a hypersonic case. I have already programmed the user-defined real gas model in order to take into account dissociation and ionization effects. However with this model I cannot use pressure far-field because it is not an ideal gas. Therefore I should use a velocity inlet and a pressure outlet.

I have been doing 2D attempts (see attached images of the mesh and domain) with an inviscid ideal-gas to see how these BC work together in hypersonic regime (i.e. inlet velocity 1500 m/s, Mach 4.4). I am using inflation only to accommodate the flow towards the wedge. Regarding the solver:

-Density-based
-Explicit formulation to ensure convergence
-Flux type AUSM
-Gradient: Gree-Gauss Cell Based
-Flow: 2nd order upwind
-Courant number: 0.25
-High Order Term Relaxation (Flow Variables only): 0.25

My simulations diverge completely. My guess is that the V. Inlet and the P. Outlet do not work properly when they are directly connected (see the upper right corner). Should I switch to a flat top with symmetry or a wall with slip conditions? I would love to hear some suggestions.

vinerm will become famous soon enough
With a compressible system, Velocity Inlet is not supposed to be used. Either use mass flow inlet or pressure inlet.
