Hi Dears
I made the shell that contain two wings for part of my project.now i am in this step that i want make a polyline as shown in figure.i want to know how i can draw this front polyline on my shell in ansys fluent?
my goal is to plot CP for this polyline against degree as shown in figure 2.
Thank you in advance

Polyline

These kind of lines are easily plotted using iso-surfaces in Fluent. Assuming that the axis of the duct is aligned with z-axis, the line is nothing but the intersection of a plane at a particular value of z-coordinate and the surface on which you want polyline. Use Surfaces > Iso-Surface > Mesh and then select the coordinate that is aligned with the axis of the duct. Provide a value to define a plane within which polyline should lie. Select the surface on which it should lie. Create.

Hi dear vinerm.
thank you for your advise
sorry for delay.i was trying to solve the problem.
i tried your idea, but in this way the plane that cut my shell(X is my shell central axis) make two polyline for me(as shown in figure 2) while i need only outer polyline that out face of my shell.this is happening becuse of my shell has thicknes.
i know i should split my shell surface into outer and inner surface and choose outer surface when i am using iso-surface,but i cant do it in ICEM-CFD(i use this application for my meshing).
do you have any idea?

Iso-Clip

Once you have generated the iso-surface containing two lines, you can further clip this iso-surface into two using iso-clip option. Use radial coordinate to clip these.

hello again and thank you
when i use radial coordinates on my polyline it just clip part of both inner and outer polylines(otherwise it acts like angular coordinates)and polyline become like figure 3.
i am not sure what is problem.
i need just outer circle

Radial Coordinate

That's because radial coordinate is not a primitive coordinate system. It is defined based on the cell zone conditions. You have to ensure that the axis direction and origin are properly defined in the cell zone conditions for accurate determination of radial coordinates.

Hello Dear vinerm.
Thank your for your reply.
I attached my geometry ( a cylinder that in my domain For Fluid and shell that is my solid) as you can see X-axis is my cylindrical axis.
also my domain is station so how i should set values in set up for fluid(i also attach this picture too).
thank you in advance

Mesh Orientation in Fluent

If you did not do any mesh transformation in Fluent, then you need to use (0 0 1) for rotation axis. As far as origin is concerned, you have to check it yourself if really the axis passes through (0 0 0) or not.

Hello!

Can you please tell me what shall be done to obtain the coordinates of this polyline? Actually, I am planning to monitor WSS at a point on the wall by obtaining coordinates from the intersection. Selecting a point via mouse probe doesn't give me exact coordinates.

Thank you in advance!

i have the same problem do you solve your's?
with iso surface i created a line around the wall but quantities are repeating in one point over and over again

Hi Aiden,

After doing some research I could not find any way to plot a polyline on my geometry in ANSYS Fluent. However, you can open your results in CFD-post and plot your polyline there.

Hope this answer helps you.

thanks ever so much me either i think there is no such a thing in fluent
