Hi all,

I am trying to simulate mixing using a mixing tank with an offset impeller. I would like to visualize how velocity vectors are evolving over the duration of the mixing time.

The total volume in the mixing tank is defined as the stationary zone, while a small cylindrical volume that encompasses the impeller is defined as the rotating zone.

I have set the rotating cell zone conditions to be rotating at an absolute rpm, and the stationary cell zone to be stationary.

However, when I run the calculations, the contours of velocity magnitude shows that only the rotating zone has any fluid velocity, and the stationary zone fluid has zero velocity (see attached picture).

How can I make it so that the fluid motion of the stationary zone is affected by the rotation of the rotating zone?

Thanks

Rotating body and the stationary region should have a communication. In Fluent, if you are using Frame motion, then this communication can be via interior boundary or interface. If you use mesh motion, then it must be via interface. It appears that you are using Frame motion and not Mesh motion. Just ensure that two zones are connected via interior, i.e., the boundaries where both touch each other are not walls but interiors. In case you observe any wall-wall-shadow pairs, then change those to interior and then run the case.
