Acoustics and CFD Turbine

Hello All

Has anyone experience with Aeroacoustics and CFD part of fans using Fluent, ? I am completely new in Fluent and the guys from ansys told me to use Fluent , so that I can also solve the acoustics part of the fan.
Looking forward for some help, who has already tried doing this !!

The objective

What is the objective of the simulation? If you want to predict the noise generated by the fan, then you have to resolve the pressure fluctuations, i.e., carry out an LES level simulation or at least URANS. If you are only in interested in broadband acoustics, i.e., sound level, then you can use inbuilt models. The models require only steady-state simulation. However, the predicts are broadband, i.e., no frequency is resolved or predicted.

If the objective is to predict transfer of sound across a region with a known source, then you can use FWH model; this is also inbuilt.

Thanks for your reply. Main aim is to simulate the fan using fluent, then measure the tonal and broadband noise components at a defined microphone position that is away from the fan. And heard from Ansys guys its possible to do using Fluent and FWH.
Do you have some experience in this direction ? Can you please share some sample cases ?

Cases

I am afraid I don't have any cases to share; but those are available from Ansys.

A starting point (for broadband modeling) could be

As far as Computational Aero Acoustics (tonal noise) is concerned, I'd suggest you ask Ansys for the tutorial they have. It requires great amount of effort to do CAA; you would also need a good computational facility if you are trying to resolve high frequencies and the domain is big.
