Fluent transient ICE simulation - exhaust cyclic "function"

Hello!

For a university project I am doing a simulation of scavenging of a two stroke diesel engine concept in ANSYS Fluent. I've been doing something similar for my Bachelors Thesis so the subject is not new for me. I would like to ask a simple question about modelling exhaust manifold. So far I've been simulating just one cylinder (the engine has 6 of them) and I have been giving a pressure outlet boundary condition at the end of this cylinder exhaust port (manifold was very simplified). I think that at the moment where my computations are I should do it more precisely and add an impact of another 5 cylinders on flow in exhaust manifold.

What I thought about was to write an UDF, which will "take" the computed mass flow/pressure/temperature from near of exhaust port outlet, delay it by 60 degrees, and put those "boundary conditions" on geometrical end of another cylinder (which will not be fully simulated, because then the simulation will be very big and expensive), which should in my mind provide "simulated" impact on physics of exhaust manifold and better show reality.

I dont know if it is a good idea, I have never done a UDF in Ansys Fluent, so I wanted to ask someone familiar with this programme if I have a good idea or maybe there is another, simple way to achieve the same what I would like?

I will be very grateful for any help!!

Best regards,
Hubert
