Hi all,

I'm a bit confused about choosing the model. I need your help.

Final goal: I have to perform combustion and look for the heat transfer to the near bodies.

1st step: solving for combustion.

CH4+2O2-->CO2+2H2O
C2H6+3.5O2-->2CO2+3H2O
C3H6+4.5O2-->3CO2+3H2O

I have to model these 3 combustion reactions.

I have 2 inlets, one is for the fuel (CH4, C2H6, and C3H6) and the other is for air (O2, N2).

Now, I'm a bit confused about how to model this in fluent!

I've read the theory guide and users guide, but still in confusion choosing between species transport and non-premixed combustion. I see both models are for non-premixed combustion.

If I had to choose species transport, then I couldn't find how to add different reactions (as I can see only a few reaction mixtures are present by default). How to add specifically a reaction which isn't available in the database?

Question 1: What is your computational domain?

Question 2: For fuel inlet, is it a mixture of all the fuels that you mentioned or you want to simulate them separately (one by one)?

Question 3: What would be your inlet velocity (mass flow rate) for fuel and oxidizer?

Species transport should have an option to add new reaction. However, in that case you have to have some other info that Fluent would definitely ask for - Arrhenius coefficients (see Arrhenius equation).

Dear Shaonme,

1.Its a 2-dimensional rectangular domain

2. Mixture of fuels (a simple gas stream consisting of different components (fuels))

3. Inlet velocity for fuel 80m/s and for oxidizer I would say 3m/s.

I have the data for the Arrhenius coefficients. But I can see that species transport doesn't allow me to organize multiple mixtures (either I can give methane-air or ethane-air but not both)

In that case, I would suggest to write a reaction mechanism in Chemkin Format then use it for chemistry part.

Okay, since I'm new to combustion modeling, do you have a particular source or link so that I can go through it and learn to apply it.
