Applying a perturbation within a mesh

Hello,

I'm using ANSYS fluent and I've created an external fluid flow mesh around a bluff body. I'm trying to apply a perturbation along the middle of the mesh for a period of time within my simulation by creating a bounded plane within my mesh to use as a velocity inlet. I've managed to create the surface i need in fluent setup but i can't figure out how to make it a named selection in order for it to show up in the boundary conditions tab. I cannot figure out how to create a bounded plane in meshing or design modeller in order to name it there. Is this possible or even the correct approach or do i need to create a surface or some other method, if so advice on how to do it would be appreciated as im a new user.

thank you in advance.
