This may be a familiar mechanism to some but I am attempting to import the GRI-Mech 3.0 mechanism to model natural gas combustion that pertains to what I am doing. The kinetics and thermo data files can be found on here: http://combustion.berkeley.edu/gri-m....html#thefiles .

The problem is here they are .dat files but can only be directly downloaded as *.dat.html to my computer and so I used notepad to copy-paste them and then save them as *.inp and *.dat, respectively. After doing so, I import them in as a Chemkin mechanism in Fluent but all I get is a bunch of these

"Warning! Species h2 not found in the thermo database file.
Equilibrium computations involving this species will fail."

about at least 2 dozen different species and it finally ends with this:

"Error at host: Memory allocation failed during Chemkin mechanism import
999999: mpt_accept: warning: connection timed out after 120 seconds MPI Application rank 0 exited before MPI_Finalize() with status 2
The fl process could not be started."

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Fluent was (is it still?) limited to 50 species. You can't use the full 53 species GRIMECH from Berkely. Inside the Fluent directories somewhere though, there is a 50 species version of GRIMECH that you can use. Try and see if that is your problem.

It's looking for the H2 data in thermo.dat (which is there) but is not being read because (I think) it exceeds the 50 species limitation on the reader. I'm not sure if the limitation still exists in newer versions of Fluent.

Where do I find said directories with the different version? And thank you for the solution.

So you are using a very very old version of Fluent? or no?

I forget where they are. It's in a tutorial. Just search your fluent directory (where you installed Fluent) for grimech30_50
