Hello,

I am attempting to add heating into my CFD model. The heating in the real world is done by induction by using an RF generator.

As I do not know how to model this and to simplify the model, I am trying to create a volume within a larger volume, the smaller of which needs to heat up. Is this sort of "imaginary/fake" heating possible? If not, how may I model something like this?

A volumetric heating source is a very reasonable approach and assuming you can specify the equivalent volumetric heating rate in power per volume corresponding to the amount of heating provided by induction, the volumetric heating approach allows you model everything within the scope of ohmic heating. And ohmic heating covers pretty much all of induction-based heating up to the limit of there being evanescent waves.


Just check the volumetric heating box and then it's just a matter of giving a reasonable number or a reasonable field of values to apply the heat.

Thank you for the quick reply! Sorry I am quite new to Ansys Fluent, where would I find the volumetric heating box?

If you are doing it the sensible way and modeling heat conduction in a solid then it is in cell zone conditions, and there is a check box for source terms.
