Default Unassigned interface zone detected

Hello everyone,

I am simulating the flow over an array of cylinders. I have built the geometry in SW and then imported it to DesignModeler, where I have chosen the share topology option.

I created the following structured mesh in Ansys meshing and named the most important edges. A symmetry condition will be imposed on the top and bottom sides.

But when I import it to Fluent and perform a mesh check it gives me the unassigned interface zone detected error for 8 edges. What could I do to solve this issue?

Thank you for your time.

Best regards

The unassigned interface issue may be due to the share topology characteristics are not correctly exported from Ansys meshing to Fluent. The interface created by you during meshing is unable to read by Fluent. But, this will not be a big trouble for you. You can create the interface manually since it is not imported correctly. Move the contact interfaces, if any, from the wall section to the interface section. Then manually make the interface by selecting two contacting interface walls and assign the interface condition (ex: coupled). Later perform the mesh check for any further issues.

I think it will help. Thanks.

Hello PKP,

When I go to the mesh display menu, I do have two regions sharing the same edge as shown in the 4th image above. However, when I go to the boundary conditions, instead of the 16 interfaces that would be necessary I only have 8 of them, one per edge. That means that I cannot couple both interfaces as I do not have two domains sharing the same edge.

Thanks for your help and best regards.

you check first where your 16 interfaces that make eight contact interfaces. These interfaces may be in internal zone, wall, or interface zone in your boundary conditions. Please move these 16 edges from these zones to the interface zone before going for manual interface making option. Please see the following figure for you reference.

I changed the geometry topology to merge and now it seems to be working fine.

Thank you
