Hi guys,
I am new to this forum. Our team did the CFD analysis of a model rocket as the final year undergraduate academic project. My elective subject was CFD theory. So that's why we did a project in this field. We calculated the drag force, drag coefficient and examined velocity and pressure contours. The drag coefficient was around 0.51 for mesh size 72015. We weren't able to validate it with wind tunnel testing because the rocket of length 35 centimetre and diameter 2.4 cm was designed by design team and was custom and when we enquired a company doing wind tunnel testing they told us that it will cost lakhs and we are not able to afford it. So now we feel like our project don't have any academic quality. I enquired in a CFD company and they told that we have the following possibilities to make this project qualify. They are 1. Dynamic derivative meshing with 6 dof to find pitch, yoke, force, moments etc and also three different velocity and attitude studies in fluent. 2. Calculating stability by finding Centre of pressure and Centre of gravity in fluent. ( I think it will be easy to validate stability result ) These two will make our project qualify. Should we go with this.? Also are these analysis called flight dynamic analysis. Since our work of calculating drag coefficient was told to be just a CFD run instead of Flight dynamic analysis by review panel. |
