Hello everyone,
A question that may be obvious to someone (other than me): Do you need boundary layer mesh for laminar flow in fluent even if your results show that the mesh is sufficiently fine? (i.e. mesh convergence study has been completed) |

There is a boundary layer whether the flow is turbulent or laminar, and a local refined mesh is needed to resolve it.

It depends on the need. Fine mesh near surface is needed for resolving the effects of boundary layer. Anything regarding calculation of heat transfer, mass transfer and hydrodynamic effects for fluid-solid interaction will be done by boundary layer calculations. If you only need to see the bulk fluid behaviour, you might not need it. But its is still a good practice to use finer mesh near surfaces as it reduces numerical diffusion and helps stability.
