Looking for a commercial software for free surface simulations

Hi everybody,

As you see from my question, I am new to this field. I need to purchase (i.e., get a license) for a CFD software that solves the following problem. 1) Put water in a flask. 2) Shake the flask periodically to and fro along one direction

Note free surface is present. Which software to purchase? 1) Fidap 2) Fluent 3) CFX

I would be grateful for any input.

I would like to recommend you the commercial cfd software 'commet'

This is really strong in free surface flow. If you visit the web site of following, you will catch the capability of commet.

Hi Dr. Michel,

Sorry for the latency, and for your problem and other things:

1. you are right, I just seem knowlrdgeable about CFD, I'm also a new comer. :)

2. I'm using FLUENT 5.3, and it makes me think that your problem can be solved by the VOF model provided by the package, you may go to http://www.cfdres.com.au/animations/elftank.gif to see a demonstrated free surface animation modeled by using FLUENT, you can also find the related info of FLUENT's product. remind you that FLUENT doest provide the couled heat transfer for VOF model by far. FLUENT also can handle the problem with peroidic conditions.

3. I know nothing about CFX and FIDAP. only know that FIDAP can provide the analysis between the fluid and the structure interaction.

Hope this helpful, good luck

Hello Michel:

Fluent Inc. has multiple solutions for free-surface problems. FIDAP has the most features for free-surface flows (VOF, ALE), even though Fluent has comprehensive VOF capabalities. If one code does not suit your problem as well as anticipated we can easily switch you to the other.

I suggest you contact your local Fluent office (NH) and send an appropriate description. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

Re: CFD-ACE+ from CFDRC

CFD-ACE+ coommercial software from CFDRC is also very good for free surfaces Visit http://www.cfdrc.com for more information

If your still interested in Free surface calculations I would recommend that you checkout flow3d.

www.flow3d.com

Flow3d is based on the VOF method.

Did you look at STAR-CD.The free surface treatment is very fast and robust. You will find more informations on the CD web site : www.cd.co.uk
