As anyone had any experience importing a CAD file into Fluent 4.5 and above ? We all know about that geometric input is the longest part so I'm attempting this at some stage.

If you use AutoCAD, it works just perfect with the AcIS export/Import, because they use the same APIs...

Thanks for the tip. Getting AutoCAD is fine. Which version of Fluent have you used this in ? I'm using 4.5. But 5.3 and 5.4 is avialable.

I am using 5.3, for AutoCAD you need to export as AcIs file (.sta extension, if I remember right).

It is always better to simplify the geometry in CAD first...

Hi Kai,

The file extension for ACIS files is .sat

I had alot of problems with geometry. Exporting from Solidworks. Have you any ideas as to how this can be effectively done? Thanks.

That file has to be imported into Gambit and not into Fluent itself.

Hi

Depending on the CAD software you are using, you can export the geometry as a variety of Standards

Pro Engineer STEP Solidworks STEP/SAT AUTOCAD, MDESKTOP SAT

If you have any problems, with the above formats, try and save them as a lower version, because there could be a inconstency between GAMBITS Translator and the version of the translator used in the CAD package
