I-DEAS CAD data import with boundary conditions

Dear Fluent Users,

Has anybody ever tried to import I-DEAS CAD data with boundary definitions (i.e. inflow, outflow, wall boundaries) directly into Fluent without going through Gambit ?

I managed to import I-DEAS CAD data, however boundary definitions were not imported. So I needed to import tha data into Gambit first, redefine the boundary conditions, export the mesh, and finally import it into Fluent.

If possible I want to get rid of the preprocessing I had to make in Gambit.

Any comments will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Yunus, You can easily import Ideas boundary definitions to Fluent. You have to make group of elements. Transferring data is not difficult but you have data limitations. I remember that you can transfer only 2000 node data to Fluent not more. In most cases, it is not enough.

I used it for complicated gometry. You have to form a group in I-DEAS and you will get what you want.
