Airfoil Meshing Scheme in Gambit

I am attempting to mesh an RAE 2822 airfoil in Gambit and am encountering great difficulty. I read that the most accurate means of meshing the free stream and boundary regions are by modeling the free stream with the same shape as the airfoil. I have scaled my airfoil up to create a free stream that is at least 10 chord lengths away from the airfoil surface, but I am having trouble getting the quality that I need (i.e. creating mesh areas that will allow me to use a Quad/Map scheme). Any advice or insight would be most helpful. Thanks.

Please tell us why you need a Quad/Map scheme. In my (quite limited) attemps at modeling airfoils, the triangular meshes were just as good as quad meshes.

the problem in gambit is you can attach a B.L to every geometry espeicilly if that geometry has a sharp angle i faced that before so just create your surface mech in gambit export the serface meach then use t grid to creat your meach dont west your time in creating quad meach

Re: Airfoil Meshing Scheme in Gambit

Hi!

You did not specify the type of the airfoil mesh you'd like to build: O-mesh, C-mesh or H-mesh? We succeeded to create O-mesh and H-meshes for the same airfoil using Quad/Submap scheme combined with one or two regions meshed with Wedge Primitive scheme. This way you can easily control the density of the mesh without using boundary layers. The triangular scheme was much havier, quite difficult to adapt and the hell of the convergence.

Cheers,

Yulia

Airfoil rotating w.r.t central axis

Hi,
I am trying to run simulation (2D) for 3 bladed NACA 0012 airfoil in vertical motion with respect to central axis using gambit and fluent. I know how to create mesh for single airfoil and run simulation on it, but i don't know how to create mesh for airfoil and to rotate it in fluent. I would be glad if anyone could help me out.
Here is a youtube video of what i actually want to do. Please help me out guys, its part of my thesis.

HI
I am also looking for same, do you got any information about rotating the airfoil in fluent. I would be glad if you could help me out.

for rotating airfoil in fluent u must used udf and compile it in fluent.
for some information see fluent udf manual(dynamic mesh).
